Tuesday Meditation is hosted by newDharma Community practitioners using “Zoom” videoconferencing, so you can see participants on your computer, tablet, or smart phone screen – and we can see you, if you chose. It can be surprisingly motivating to sit with other people, even virtually!
Participation is super simple: just click the appropriate link by 5 minutes before start time. If you haven’t used zoom before, clicking this link should download a light software package. You can also download & create a (free) account ahead of time by going to (zoom.us).
When you arrive, be brave, turn your camera ON & your microphone OFF; & set the view to “gallery” (you can turn your side to the camera or even your back so the screen doesn’t distract, though we’ve found it helps to be able to see each other at least in peripheral vision). If you must keep your camera off, that’s OK, know that your presence helps to motivate others.
On a desktop, your lower left-hand corner will go from
to this:
That’s all… when we CHANT short chants, you can take yourself OFF mute. (if you’re not sure, follow others’ lead!)
Through technology, we chant together-ish and we WANT to hear your voices!
In the mornings, we chant the “verse of the robe” [a chant for acknowledging we are wearing our intentions & the teachings as we go out into our day].
The verse goes like this:
Vast is the robe of liberation,
a formless field of benefaction,
I wear the universal teachings,
saving all sentient beings.
In the evenings, join us in wholeheartedly committing to the impossible as we offer the “Four Vows” (3x):
Beings are numberless, I vow to awaken them,
Delusions are inexhaustable, I vow to transform them,
The Dharma is boundless, I vow to perceive it,
The awakened way is unattainable, I vow to embody it.
We end with “Jai Mitra!” (Victory to our spiritual friends!) & greet one another (often with a brief check in).
That’s all!
